- A Chest Physician, also known as a Pulmonologist or Respiratory Physician, is a medical doctor specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases and conditions affecting the respiratory system, including asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, lung cancer, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and sleep apnea; utilizing various diagnostic tools like lung function tests, chest X-rays, CT scans, and bronchoscopy to develop comprehensive treatment plans involving medication, oxygen therapy, breathing exercises, and, when necessary, surgical interventions, while also providing ongoing management and patient education to optimize respiratory health.
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in pulmonology.
Successful completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
Certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonology.
Valid and active medical license in the state you wish to practice.
