Required Qualifications
Education: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree is required, along with completion of a residency in internal medicine.
Licensing: Must be licensed to practice medicine in the relevant state and board-certified in internal medicine.
Skills: Strong diagnostic skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to patient care are essential. Internists should also be adept at problem-solving and decision-making, particularly in complex medical cases.
Work Environment

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of medicine (MD) degree or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree.
3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in internal medicine.
Successful completion of the Internal Medicine Certification Examination.
Certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in internal medecine
